The Bayelsa State chapter of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) has marked International Women’s Day with the launch of a mentor-mentee pairing programme aimed at strengthening career development among female engineers.
The event, themed “Give to Gain: Unlocking Potential through Mentorship and Sponsorship,” featured an engaging panel session that brought together professionals from academia and industry, alongside graduate engineers, young professionals, and students.
Panelists shared practical insights on the importance of mentorship and sponsorship in career growth, drawing from real-life experiences and offering actionable guidance to participants.
The discussions resonated strongly with attendees, many of whom expressed enthusiasm about leveraging mentorship opportunities to advance their careers in engineering.
A key highlight of the programme was the pairing of 27 young female engineers and students with experienced professionals who will serve as mentors, marking the beginning of structured relationships aimed at fostering growth, confidence, and leadership development.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of APWEN Bayelsa, Engr. Amalate Ann-Jonathan Obuebite, commended the panelists for their commitment to mentoring the next generation.
She noted that their willingness to invest time and expertise reflects the broader goal of collective growth within the profession.
Obuebite also urged the mentees to take full advantage of the initiative, describing it as a valuable opportunity to shape their careers and contribute meaningfully to the future of engineering.
