Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ohuan Ward 9, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State, on Tuesday staged a protest at the party’s state secretariat over concerns regarding the selection of a councillorship candidate for the ward.

The protesters said Sunday Erhabor had earlier emerged as a consensus candidate following a meeting involving aspirants and ward leaders.

However, they noted that there have been recent developments concerning the process ahead of the forthcoming local government election in the state.

Led by Erhabor, the protesters carried placards with various inscriptions to express their concerns. An official of the party addressed them and assured that the matter would be handled in line with party procedures, adding that stakeholders would be invited for further discussions.

Speaking to journalists, Erhabor said, “I was endorsed by the ward executives and leaders of Ohuan Ward 9 on March 22 to represent the ward. What we are hearing now is different.

“For me, it is not a do-or-die affair. If the leaders who endorsed me meet again and decide otherwise, I will abide by their decision. We will wait for the party to call us for a meeting as promised.”

The protesters appealed to the party leadership to ensure due process and transparency in the selection of candidates.
