SOKOTO — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated its newly elected Sokoto State Executive Committee as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s structure and internal cohesion.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the party’s State Secretariat in Sokoto, where a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Jecob Ochidi (SAN), administered the oath of office to the executives elected during the recent state congress.
The congress, supervised by the State Congress Committee Chairman, Professor Muztaz Aliyu Abubakar, was described by party stakeholders as peaceful and transparent.
At the congress, Alhaji Haruna Sarkin Gobir Adiyya emerged as the State Chairman, while Alhaji Yahaya Buhari was elected Deputy Chairman.
Other officials sworn in include Barrister Bello Abdullahi as State Secretary; Alhaji Abubakar S. Fada as Assistant Secretary; Alhaji Shehu Mai Dussa as Treasurer; Alhaji Nasiru Italy as Financial Secretary; Alhaji Ibrahim Dan Yaro as Organising Secretary; Barrister Bashir Jodi as Legal Adviser; Hajiya Rabi Garba as Women Leader; Suleiman Mahmud Tijjani as Youth Leader; and Alhaji Muhammad Umar as Publicity Secretary, alongside other members of the State Executive Committee.
Speaking at the event, the outgoing State Chairman, Hon. Isah Sadeeq Achida, thanked party leaders, delegates and members for their support during his tenure.
He described the successful congress and inauguration as a significant moment for the party in Sokoto State and urged the new executives to focus on strengthening grassroots structures and promoting unity within the party.
Achida also called on party members across the state to support the new leadership in order to consolidate the party’s progress and prepare for future political contests.
In his remarks, the newly inaugurated State Chairman, Alhaji Haruna Sarkin Gobir Adiyya, expressed appreciation to party members and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him and other members of the executive.
He pledged to run an inclusive and transparent administration while strengthening consultations with stakeholders and mobilising support at the grassroots level.
Adiyya noted that the process that produced the new executives reflected unity within the party and emphasized the need for members to remain focused on strengthening the party and supporting its programmes at both state and national levels.
