APC Digital Force DG Klinsmann dumps ruling party

Tinubu

A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and former Director General of the APC Digital Force, Pharm. Ikeagwuonwu Chinedu Klinsmann, has formally resigned from the ruling party, citing irreconcilable differences between his personal values and the current direction of the party and government.

In a resignation letter dated March 7, 2026, and addressed to APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda through the ward chairman in Umudioka Ward 2, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, the Stockholm-based pharmacist announced his immediate withdrawal from the party and simultaneously stepped down from his role as DG of the APC Digital Force. He also requested that his name be struck from all official party membership records.

“It is with a heavy heart, profound reflection, and deep sense of duty to my conscience that I write to formally tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress, effective immediately,” Klinsmann wrote, stressing that the decision was rooted in principle rather than personal animosity.

Klinsmann identified a range of governance failures as underlying factors in his decision, pointing specifically to the removal of fuel subsidies without adequate protection for vulnerable citizens, the floating of the naira and the currency volatility that followed, and a worsening security crisis marked by banditry, insurgency, kidnappings, and communal conflicts across the country.

He further cited what he described as the party’s failure to pursue meaningful reconciliation in the South-East, particularly the continued detention of Indigenous People of Biafra leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, which he argued has prolonged instability in the region.

However, Klinsmann identified the immediate trigger for his resignation as President Bola Tinubu’s approval of Reno Omokri’s posting as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mexico — a development he described as his breaking point. He disclosed that on the same morning he submitted his resignation, he had written a formal protest letter to the President of Mexico objecting to the appointment.

“I have repeatedly and publicly kicked against Mr. Omokri’s disparaging insults and vicious attacks on the Igbo ethnic group, among others. His continued rhetoric has been divisive and harmful,” Klinsmann stated, warning that the appointment posed a direct threat to the safety and dignity of Nigerians, including many Igbos, residing in Mexico.

Despite his sharp criticisms, Klinsmann was careful to note that he bore no personal ill will toward the party or its leadership, describing his years of engagement within the APC as formative and expressing gratitude for the relationships and opportunities he encountered.

He made no announcement of a new political affiliation but reaffirmed his commitment to justice, national unity, and democratic progress, describing his exit as a principled withdrawal pending the emergence of a platform more aligned with his values.

“As I step away, I look forward with cautious optimism to what the future holds. I pray that Nigeria finds its path to true progress, unity, and prosperity for all,” he concluded.
