ALSCON pledges sustained boost to Ikot Abasi development
  • As St Theresa High Sch Wins 2nd ALSCON Quiz Contest

UYO – ALUMINUM Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) managed by RUSAL in Akwa Ibom state has pledged sustained sacrifices to deepen development in Ikot Abasi, its host community through infrastructures, educational support and livelihoods improvement.

Acting Managing Director of the company, Ime Inyang, gave the pledge yesterday as the 2nd RUSAL-ALSCON Quiz Competition for Secondary School in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area ended with St Theresa Model High School emerging champions.

Inyang highlighted that the Quiz contest, facilitated through the Community Education Development Initiative (CEDI), was part fulfillment of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Inyang on the Quiz occasion thanked stakeholders, “especially teachers from the different schools. We have seen what you have impacted on your students and we encourage you to do more for them because they are actually leaders of tomorrow.

“If they are equipped with the proper knowledge at this stage, by the time they get into the larger world they would be able to impact positively on the society.

“On behalf of RUSAL-ALSCON I reaffirm the commitment of the company to infrastructural development while improving the standard of learning in Ikot Abasi”.

The Director Government and Public Affairs, Mr Alexander Ashkinazi, added, “We always give much attention to education, trying to support whatever initiative we have. We have the secondary school quiz in its second year running and you can see how magnificent it was”.

Trailing St Theresa High School, this year’s Quiz champions were the ALSCON Staff School, Ikot Abasi who came second as Midtown Secondary Commercial School clinched third position.

Chairman of the occasion, Mr Uyoatta Abraham, commended ALSCON’s for fostering peace and enhancing education in Ikot Abasi as Coordinator of the CEDI, Mr Uboho James, asserted that the initiative deepens the students ability to identify and navigate through their challenges.

James acknowledged, “Thank you RUSAL-ALSCON because in terms of community partnership, community programmes and CSR you have been topnotch”.
