A former House of Assembly candidate, Eghosa Asemota Agbonifo, has thrown his weight behind Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu in the race for the Oredo Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
Agbonifo declared his “total support” for Iyamu, a former Commissioner for Education in Edo State, describing him as a credible candidate with deep roots in the constituency.
In a statement made available to journalists, Agbonifo said Iyamu’s longstanding connection with the people of the constituency and his commitment to democratic values informed his decision to support his aspiration.
“I remember vividly how you voted in 2019. While driving back, you had a flat tyre and God spared your life. You are not new to Oredo, and your history here is well documented. When the time comes, I will speak more on your political journey,” he said.
Agbonifo also addressed the issue of zoning and equitable representation within the constituency, arguing that the House of Representatives seat should go to Oredo West to maintain political balance.
According to him, Iyamu’s origin from Ward 10 places him in a strategic position to ensure fair representation for the area.
“For the sake of balance, Oredo West deserves this seat. Coming from Ward 10 reflects proper representation. It is time to represent the people with fairness,” he added.
Political observers in Benin City say Agbonifo’s endorsement could strengthen Iyamu’s support base, particularly among youth and grassroots mobilisers, as calls for Ward 10 representation continue to gain momentum.
