2027: Adewale Kareem advocates structured credit model for Oyo

A governorship aspirant in Oyo State under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK), has unveiled a credit scoring initiative aimed at promoting financial integrity, accountability, and broader access to credit across the state.

Explaining the rationale behind the policy, Kareem said, “We want to enable our people understand the implications of repayment and maintain a good credit history, while encouraging accountability and responsible borrowing.”

He noted that the absence of a structured credit culture has limited financial inclusion and increased default rates.

Kareem emphasised that the proposed system would leverage technology to track borrowing and repayment patterns. “We will deploy technology to monitor progress, ensure repayment, and promote financial discipline. This is how we can build trust in our lending systems,” he said.

He added that the initiative is part of a broader vision to integrate technology into governance and economic development.

“Technology is the systematic application of knowledge to solve practical problems. Its potential is limitless, and we must use it to address our challenges in Oyo State,” he stated.

Drawing from global examples, Kareem said, “Countries that have embraced digital systems in governance have improved transparency, accountability, and service delivery.

We can replicate such success here.”

The credit scoring model, he disclosed, would be tied to a proposed interest-free loan scheme to be administered through the AKK House, a newly completed innovation hub.

“With the AKK House, we have created a platform to empower our people. The credit system will ensure that support gets to those who are responsible and committed,” he said.

He expressed confidence in the initiative’s impact, noting, “This approach will reduce defaults, promote financial literacy, and ensure sustainability, so that more people can benefit over time.”..
