The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Trans Amadi Branch, has donated safety kits to the TURN Plastic Recycling Plant in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as part of efforts to promote workplace safety and support sustainable engineering initiatives.

The donation, carried out under the Branch’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, was aimed at reinforcing a safety-first culture at the recycling facility, which plays a key role in plastic waste management and environmental protection.

Speaking during the presentation, Chairman of the NSE Trans Amadi Branch, Engr. Dr. Jonathan Francis, FNSE, stressed that safety remains a top priority for the Branch. He urged the management and staff of the plant to continue adhering strictly to safety standards in all aspects of their operations.

Engr. Francis also reaffirmed the Branch’s willingness to provide technical support to the facility, noting that the plant’s recycling activities contribute significantly to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and align with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

According to him, the NSE is committed to supporting institutions that make meaningful contributions to environmental sustainability, adding that the TURN Plastic Recycling Plant’s role in mitigating climate change through recycling efforts deserves encouragement and professional backing.

Receiving the safety kits on behalf of the plant’s management, Mr. Emeka Onyeka expressed appreciation to the NSE Trans Amadi Branch for the gesture. He described the donation as timely and assured that the facility would continue to prioritize safety in its daily operations.

Onyeka also commended the Branch leadership for fulfilling its pledge to support the plant technically, saying such collaboration would further strengthen operational efficiency and safety compliance.

The TURN Plastic Recycling Plant is a joint CSR initiative of TotalEnergies EP Nigeria, NNPC Limited and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). The facility is designed to recycle over 1,000 tonnes of plastic waste annually and reduce more than 750 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year, an impact equivalent to planting about 4,500 trees.

The NSE Trans Amadi Branch said initiatives such as the donation reflect its ongoing commitment to advancing sustainable engineering practices, environmental responsibility and community development in the Niger Delta and beyond.
