Nigerian artistes are doing well despite no Grammy win – GT Da Guitarman

Popular Nigerian singer and guitarist, GT Da Guitarman, has urged Nigerian artistes to keep the Grammy Awards in perspective, insisting that not winning should not overshadow their global achievements.

Speaking with Potpourri, GT celebrated the strong Nigerian presence on the nomination list and advised those who did not win not to feel discouraged.

“The nominated artistes shouldn’t allow not winning a Grammy to derail them. They are all doing well and their sounds are dominating globally,” he said.

Reacting to conversations around snubs and wins, the singer noted that Nigerians naturally expect victory because of the country’s competitive spirit in sports and other international competitions.

“A lot of people expected that a Nigerian artiste could have picked it up because we obviously are very passionate about our country. Whenever any of us is doing anything — whether it is boxing or football — we are always very passionate about winning. And I think it’s a Nigerian thing,” he stated.

GT, however, stressed that being nominated is a major achievement on its own, as the category often reflects what listeners embraced most within the year under review.

“But I feel that the fact that they were nominated is a big deal. The award was made for one person. And in the year in review, it was found that these guys are the guys that people listened to. I think that is a big deal,” he said.

He also praised the wider African representation at the awards.

“And that they were picked from different geographical locations in Africa — that’s beautiful,” he added.

Listing some of the standout names, he maintained that the organisers got it right with their selections.

“They were correct with the songs that took over 2025. These are the guys — Burna Boy, Wizkid, Ayra Starr, Davido, Tyla,” he said.

On Tyla’s win, he described the outcome as fair, noting how competitive the category was.

“The award going to Tyla was fair because it could have gone to any one of them. They all did great. They dominated globally,” he said.
