Kiagbodo Town in Burutu Local Government Area came alive as top Niger Delta leaders gathered to mark the first-year remembrance of Chief Sen Dr. Edwin Clark, OFR, CON, a foremost advocate for the region, who passed away on February 17, 2025.

The Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) led the tribute, with Amb. Godknows Igali heading a delegation that first visited the palace of HRM Ogiogio II, Pere of Igbilebri Mein Kingdom in Kiagbodo.

The statement was signed by: Chief Dr. Obiuwevbi Ominimini, PANDEF National Spokesman.

The memorial included an interdenominational thanksgiving service at Edwin Clark University, Kiagbodo, attended by dignitaries such as the Hon. Minister of Regional Development, Hon. Abubakar Momoh, represented by Dr. Chris Oghenechovwe. The ceremony concluded with the laying of wreaths at Clark’s gravesite.

Speakers at the event celebrated the late leader as a “brutal truth keeper” who fought for the rights of all citizens and championed Nigeria’s unity. PANDEF national executives, chapter chairmen from the FCT, Abuja, and Lagos, and other notable leaders attended the service.

Chief Clark’s contributions to the Niger Delta were highlighted, including his role in mediating between youths and oil companies during a period when daily oil production had dwindled to about 700 barrels, helping boost output to over 2 million barrels per day. Attendees also recalled his persistent advocacy for improved infrastructure, including the East-West Road, Calabar-Itu Road, functional sea ports, and the revival of the Warri and Port Harcourt refineries.

“Chief Clark’s legacy remains indelible,” the PANDEF statement said. “Though his passing leaves a vacuum, he mentored many who will continue his work and ensure his vision for the Niger Delta endures.”

The forum concluded by praying for the repose of his soul, remembering him as a true icon of the region.
