JALINGO — The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has taken its financial literacy campaign to Nyanmusala Primary and Secondary School in Jalingo, Taraba State, educating pupils on the importance of savings and asset management.
Dr. Idris Idris, an NDIC official, told the students that understanding how money works from an early age is key to grooming responsible and productive adults. He advised them to avoid gambling and to cultivate a habit of saving, stressing that it could help them “escape the rat race” in the future.
He also encouraged the students to invest in self-development rather than spending excessively to impress peers and emphasized the importance of distinguishing between needs and wants as a guiding principle in financial decisions.
Providing an overview of the NDIC’s mandate, Mr. Aminu Musa explained that the Federal Government-established corporation, founded in 1988, protects depositors and ensures the stability of Nigeria’s financial system.
A representative of the school management thanked the Taraba State Government for recommending their school for the program and urged students to take the lessons to heart and share the knowledge with friends and family.
