FRSC at 38: Bayelsa command reiterates commitment to professionalism, safer roads

The Bayelsa State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has reiterated the commitment of the command to the values of professionalism, discipline and integrity in the tasks of maintaining a safer motoring environment.

Bayelsa State Corp Commandant, Prince Abosi, stated this in Yenagoa, on Wednesday, while leading the rank and file of the command and other stakeholders to celebrate the thirty -eight years anniversary of the FRSC.

He pointed out that the Corps was born out of a national.emergency to combat the then-alarming rate of road traffic crashes, and since its inception, the FRSC has transitioned from a modest initiative into a world-class data-driven organization dedicated to regulating, educating, clearing obstructions and rescuing crash victims across the country .

Corps Commander Abosi expressed appreciation to the Bayelsa state governor Senator Douye Diri for his administration’s continuous support that has been the backbone of the smooth and effective operations within the State and other stakeholders including sister security agencies, transport unions, traditional rulers and the media for their seamless synergy.

He said: “The mission of the Corps remains clear: to create a safer motoring environment
through prevention of crashes, enforcement and the provision of prompt post-crash
care, For thirty-eight (38) years, we have done these and in this moment of reflection and celebration, the Bayelsa Sector Command rededicate her values on professionalism, discipline and integrity.

“The Command also promises to improve prompt rescue services to Save lives within the Golden Hour, carryout data-drive enforcement, disseminate road safety to schools, religious centers, markets foster a culture of safety in the State.

“While the Corps remains resolute in enforcing traffic laws, the ultimate power to save lives lies in the hands of the road users, no journey is so urgent that it should cost a life.

“To all drivers, riders and pedestrians, we admonish you to obey speed limits, drive sober, avoid the influence of alcohol and drugs, prioritize restraints and cooperate with officers on duty as they are on the road for your safety. Let us work together to ensure that our roads are not death traps, but corridors of safe transit for us now and our children in the future.”

The highlights of the celebration was the cutting of the 38 anniversary cake by the state corps commandant assisted by representatives of other security agencies, as well as inter-security agencies games, among others.

The FRSC was established on the 18th February, 1988 through Decree 45 now backed by the FRSC Establishment Act 2007.
