As international demand for Nigerian music continues to grow across streaming platforms and global award stages, record labels are under increasing pressure to combine creativity with structured business strategy. Lagos entertainment executive Simdi Chukwuma is targeting global recognition for The Blunt Records within Nigeria’s music industry as the label expands its structured approach to artist development. Since establishing the Lagos-based record company on June 1, 2021, she has built its operations around long term planning, disciplined production, and measurable career milestones.

Under her leadership, Qing Madi has secured nine award wins, including Songwriter of the Year at the 17th Headies Awards (2025) and Most Promising Artiste of the Year at the 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA 2026), signaling steady growth for the Nigerian record label and reinforcing its rising influence within the industry growth model.
“My current goal is simple,” Simdi said. “I want to build a global award winning artist.”
Her leadership philosophy is rooted in consistency, a principle she attributes to lessons learned from her mother’s work ethic. With academic training in Computer Science and Psychology, she integrates digital analytics, audience insights, and strategic branding into the label’s management structure, helping artists navigate Nigeria’s competitive streaming ecosystem.

Now in 2026, her ambition has shifted decisively toward structured international penetration, with The Blunt Records strengthening production standards, refining partnerships, and aligning releases with global distribution opportunities.
A defining professional milestone came when she produced a visual project for Olive The Boy that surpassed 12 million views on YouTube, demonstrating the commercial potential of well executed visual storytelling.
“I learned early that execution is everything,” she said. “Ideas mean nothing without delivery.”
Beyond awards and view counts, Simdi says her broader mission is to ensure Nigerian artists are equipped with the business structure necessary to compete sustainably on international stages. She believes that ownership awareness, contract literacy, and brand positioning are critical to maintaining Nigeria’s growing influence in global music markets.

Simdi consistently emphasizes the importance of reputation management within Nigeria’s music industry, particularly for emerging artists navigating rapid exposure.
“Protect your reputation like gold,” she advised. “Think long term, not viral.”
Despite skepticism related to her age and gender, she remains focused on sustainable growth and measurable outcomes. “No luck, just work,” she stated, reinforcing the disciplined approach that has defined her leadership.
With Qing Madi’s EP projects in progress and The Blunt Symposium event forthcoming in Lagos, The Blunt Records is entering a new expansion phase aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s global entertainment footprint while reinforcing structured leadership within the African music industry.
