Caleb University, Imota, has appointed Pastor (Mrs.) Foluke Adenike Adeboye as its new Chancellor, marking what stakeholders have described as a historic moment in the institution’s steady ascent within Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
The announcement came barely three days after Pastor Adeboye was conferred with a Doctor of Humanity (Honoris Causa) at the University’s 15th Convocation ceremony; a development observers have hailed as “a convergence of scholarship and sanctity.”
At the colourful ceremony, which saw the graduation of 1,924 students, including 96 First Class honourees and 22 PhD awardees, the University stood in full regalia to honour a woman widely celebrated for her selflessness, quiet strength and moral integrity.
Pastor Adeboye, wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, is herself a pastor, educationist, administrator and global conference speaker. Over the decades, she has distinguished herself as an institutional builder, youth mentor and advocate of family values.
Her honorary doctorate, the University noted, was “an academic acknowledgment of a lifetime invested in education, youth mentorship and moral formation.”
Describing her, the institution said she is “a matriarch of uncommon dignity, a guardian of values in an age of flux, and a steady moral compass in turbulent times.”
Three days after the conferment, the University’s Governing Council formally announced her acceptance of the office of Chancellor — the ceremonial head and supreme moral authority of the institution.
In line with tradition of university governance, the Chancellor presides over convocations, confers degrees and safeguards the institution’s ethos and traditions. The office embodies continuity, conscience and credibility.
By inviting Pastor Adeboye to occupy the exalted seat, stakeholders say the University has effectively “enthroned character at the pinnacle of scholarship.”
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olalekan Asikhia, whose seven-point agenda has repositioned the institution within Nigeria’s higher education ecosystem, described the development as “a defining inflection point in Caleb’s unstoppable ascent.”
Her appointment, he noted, reinforces the University’s founding philosophy of discipline, excellence and godly character.
Observers believe her chancellorship will not only strengthen the University’s moral architecture, but also enhance its global visibility and partnerships.
“With her transnational reach within faith, education and humanitarian networks, Caleb University stands to benefit from deeper collaborations and values-driven leadership initiatives,” a senior official said.
In a press statement signed by the Information, Media and Publication Specialist, Olawale Adekoya, the University declared: “as Caleb University turns this luminous page in its history, one truth stands radiant: when character is enthroned, destiny is fortified. In the gentle strength and magnificent selflessness of its new Chancellor, the University has found not merely a figurehead, but a matriarch of meaning.”
With her acceptance of the role, Pastor (Mrs.) Foluke Adeboye steps into a lineage of custodians charged with preserving the soul of the institution, signalling what many describe as a new dawn where scholarship and spirituality walk hand in hand.
