A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, Chief Sunday Ohakwu, has expressed concerns about alleged efforts to intimidate the party’s top presidential aspirant, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Ohakwu highlighted Amaechi’s growing popularity and public acceptance as a potential leader for Nigeria, suggesting that this has caused unease among some political figures.

“We strongly believe that any attempts to distract or hinder our leader and the ADC from the presidential race ahead will not succeed,” Ohakwu said. “Nigeria will not accept any form of witch-hunt or acts to intimidate our party or our leader.

“As part of their aggressive efforts to find reasons and evidence to nail him for prosecution in the courts, various teams are currently looking at State records, accounts and properties in Rivers State, Lagos State and Abuja, looking for a full-proof, watertight case that will lead to the arrest and trial of Amaechi.”

Ohakwu emphasized that Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation, has been vocal in his criticism of the current administration and remains a leading opposition figure from southern Nigeria.

He reiterated the ADC’s commitment to the presidential bid, stating that the party views Amaechi as the right candidate to drive Nigeria toward greater heights.

The statement comes amid ongoing political preparations for the next election cycle, with the ADC positioning itself as a key opposition platform.
