SOKOTO — Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto North, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has urged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing the president’s reform agenda as well-intentioned and vital for the nation’s long-term stability and development.
Senator Wamakko made the call on Thursday in Sokoto during the formal flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) electronic membership registration exercise across the state, in line with directives from the party’s national headquarters.
The exercise commenced with the registration of Senator Wamakko, the party’s leader in Sokoto State, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Hall, Gawon Nama. The event drew top government officials, party leaders and a large turnout of party faithful from all 23 local government areas.
Speaking after his registration by the state APC chairman, Wamakko described the e-registration exercise as timely and strategic for strengthening the party ahead of future political engagements. He explained that Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, who was scheduled to register first, was absent due to participation in the lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
Describing the APC as a party with a national outlook and inclusive ideology, Wamakko commended President Tinubu for his bold initiatives aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth, global competitiveness, and human capital development.
“I am personally close to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and I know his intentions for Nigeria and Nigerians,” Wamakko said. “He is committed to building a stronger, more prosperous and stable country. I pray that Allah continues to guide him to move Nigeria forward for the benefit of present and future generations.”
He acknowledged that national development often comes with challenges, urging Nigerians to exercise patience and support the president’s reform initiatives designed to secure long-term progress. Wamakko also praised APC stakeholders in Sokoto State for their continued loyalty and dedication, commending the state executive committee, local government leaders, grassroots mobilisers, ministers, ambassadors and party supporters.
Earlier, APC State Chairman Hon. Isah Sadiq Achida announced that following Senator Wamakko’s registration, the exercise would continue with the registration of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, his deputy Idris Muhammad Gobir, and other party members across all 23 local government areas. He called on party members to participate promptly to ensure completion of the two-week exercise.
The flag-off ceremony also saw the registration of the Deputy Governor, Idris Muhammad Gobir; Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi; Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo; and ambassador-designate, Dr. Kulu Haruna Abubakar. The event was attended by party executives, local government chairmen, and numerous APC supporters from across Sokoto State.
