In today’s Nigerian newspapers review programme, Today in the News, Vanguard leads with confusion that has surrounded the alleged kidnapping of over 170 worshippers from three churches in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Another headline features the International Monetary Fund (IMF) revising Nigeria’s 2026 economic growth forecast upward to 4.4 per cent, attributing the improvement to stronger macroeconomic conditions and sustained reform momentum.

Vanguard also reports that the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), in Abuja, reportedly in front of the Kuje Correctional Centre shortly after he visited the facility.

Moving to the next newspaper, The Guardian leads with a report that one year after the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) approved a 50 per cent hike in telecom tariffs, millions of Nigerians are still paying more while receiving poor service.

Next paper, The Punch leads with prominent socio-political groups, including Afenifere, the Arewa Consultative Forum, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Middle Belt Forum, condemning the Katsina State Government’s plan to release 70 bandits in a bid to salvage a failing peace pact with bandit leaders.

Finally, The Nation reports that Vice President Kashim Shettima declared on Monday that Nigeria is ready to take a leading role in the global economy while speaking in Davos, Switzerland, at the opening of the Nigeria House pavilion at the World Economic Forum, where he is leading the Nigerian delegation.
