Nigeria to USA: Benue cyclist returns home after gruelling ride to Mauritania

Benue-born cyclist, Emmanuel Myam, popularly known as Real-Emmiwuks, has returned to Nigeria seven months after embarking on an ambitious solo bicycle journey from Nigeria to the United States, a mission aimed at drawing global attention to the plight of orphaned and displaced children in Africa.

Myam, who began the daring ride on July 1, 2025, travelled across several West African countries before reaching Mauritania, where he was forced to temporarily suspend the journey due to health concerns and travel documentation challenges.

He eventually flew back to Nigeria to address the issues.

Announcing his return via his verified social media handle, the cyclist explained that the decision was difficult but necessary, stressing that the setback has not dampened his resolve to complete the historic ride.

“I just want to properly explain what’s been going on. You all know I’ve been sharing every step of this journey with you,” Myam wrote.

He revealed that upon arriving in Mauritania, circumstances beyond his control compelled him to pause the expedition.

“When I got to Mauritania, I had to pause and make a tough call to head back to Nigeria and sort out some important things: my documents, medical treatment, visa interviews, and a few other necessary matters,” he said.

Myam also disclosed that he endured a challenging period behind the scenes, which kept him away from public updates for several days.
“For almost seven days, I went quiet, and honestly, it’s because behind the scenes hasn’t been easy at all. A lot was happening that I couldn’t really put out there,” he explained.

Despite the interruption, the cyclist expressed gratitude to supporters and reaffirmed his commitment to the cause and the journey itself.

“But I’m thankful that things are finally falling into place, and tonight I’m on my way back to Nigeria for my treatment and visa interviews,” he added.

Myam appreciated and assured followers that the dream remains alive. “Thank you to everyone who checked on me, prayed for me, and kept supporting me even in my silence. This journey is far from over. We keep moving forward. Together we ride. Together we rise.”
