New Year: Gbajabiamila splashes gifts on first babies in Surulere, pays N53m medical bills

The Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, on Thursday, urged privileged people in the country to always lend a hand of support to those in need around them.


Gbajabiamila said when he visited the Gbaja Maternal and Child Centre, Surulere, where he welcomed babies born on New Year’s Day
The Chief of Staff congratulated the mother of the first baby and those of other babies on safe delivery, wishing them sound health.
Received by top officials and other staff members of the facility, Gbajabiamila later presented a cash gift of N500,000 and other gifts to Jumoke Yusuf,the mother of the first baby.


He also presented cash gifts to the mothers of other babies born shortly after Baby Yusuf.
Thanking Gbajabiamila for the gesture, Jumoke said she was pleasantly surprised by the Chief of Staff’s visit and the gifts.
“Honestly,I wasn’t expecting this;this is a pleasant surprise.I thank the Chief of Staff for this kind gesture.Our baby and everyone is also thanking him.


“I wish I could rise a bit from this bed and thank him with my knees to the ground.The baby was born through CS ,so I am weak now,very weak.


“I pray that God should continue to perfect everything that concerns him.I am grate to him,these generous gifts will go a long way”,she said.


The Chief of Staff later proceeded to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Idi Araba, where he spent some time with patients.


At the bed of Mr Adedeji Oluwatimilehin, a patient who suffered bullet wounds after he was shot multiple times by armed robbers in Ajah area, Gbajabiamila expressed sadness over the attack and settled his medical bill of N3.5million.


“This is devastating; multiple bullets in your body and God spared your life.We thank God for your life and I wish you speedy recovery
“We are presenting this (cash) to you to take care of your surgeries and support you.I wish you soonest recovery,I will continue to pray for you”, he said.


Oluwatimileyin, who commended Gbajabiamila for the gesture, said he did not see the help coming.


“May God bless you sir.I did not see this coming, I had lost all hope. Honestly, I did not see this coming. May God bless you.
“I thank God for keeping me alive.I was standing at a junction in Ajah around 10 p.m. when armed robbers operating in the area fired multiple bullets into my abdomen.
“Some have been removed ,but many are still there.I thank God for this support and pray that our Chief of Staff will always find favour”, he said.


The Chief of staff settled medical bills of other patients, totalling N33.5 m at LUTH.
He later proceeded to the General Hospital, where he also spent time with the patients at the facility.


Gbajabiamila also paid the medical bills of patients who could could not pay their bills at the hospital.


The office of the Chief Staff later told the media that a total amount of N53m was spent on the medical outreach.
