Efforts to strengthen education in oil and gas host communities in Delta State received a boost with the successful completion of a capacity-building training programme for teachers, sponsored by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and implemented by Omarog Company Nigeria Limited.
The training, which focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, brought together 40 teachers from oil and gas host communities, with the aim of improving their capacity to deliver STEM subjects effectively in their schools.
Speaking at the programme, the facilitator, Mr. Tope Adeosun, commended NCDMB and Omarog Company Nigeria Limited for investing in teachers’ professional development, noting that strengthening teachers’ STEM competencies would have a direct positive impact on students’ learning outcomes.
Adeosun expressed appreciation to the management of both organisations for their commitment to education and capacity building in the region, adding that the training would contribute meaningfully to the development of the host communities and the country at large.
He described the programme as a demonstration of the partners’ commitment to improving educational standards and supporting human capital development within oil and gas producing areas.
Participants also expressed gratitude to NCDMB and Omarog Company Nigeria Limited for the opportunity, stating that the training had enhanced their teaching skills and would enable them to deliver more effective STEM education to their students.
The organisers said the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education and promote sustainable development in oil and gas host communities in Delta State.
