As part of activities marking the New Year celebrations, the Chairman of the Khana Traditional Rulers Council, His Majesty King Suanu Timothy Yormaadam Baridam, has called on all stakeholders in Ogoni land to promote peace, unity and harmonious coexistence.
The monarch made the call on Tuesday while receiving a delegation of traditional rulers at his palace in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Expressing gratitude for the peaceful conclusion of 2025, King Baridam described peace as the most valuable asset any community can preserve.
“I thank God Almighty for seeing us through the year 2025 in peace. This peace did not come by chance; it is the result of your wisdom, patience and commitment as traditional rulers,” he said.
The monarch commended Nyo-Khana rulers for their unwavering dedication to unity and harmony within their communities and across Ogoni land, urging them to remain steadfast in the discharge of their leadership responsibilities.
“As custodians of our culture and values, much is expected of you. Our people look up to you, and together we must continue to promote unity, dialogue and understanding in Nyo-Khana and the entire Khana area,” he added.
King Baridam also provided updates on recent developments and welfare initiatives concerning traditional rulers, assuring them of continued advocacy and engagement with relevant authorities to improve their welfare.
“Your welfare remains a priority. We will continue to engage relevant authorities to ensure that traditional rulers are supported and empowered to serve effectively,” the monarch said.
To usher in the New Year, he presented gifts to members of the delegation and offered royal blessings, praying for wisdom, good health and sustained peace in 2026.
Speaking on behalf of the Nyo-Khana Paramount Rulers, the Secretary of the Nyo-Khana Council of Chiefs, Chief Barilugbene Sampson, expressed appreciation to the Bangha monarch for his consistent leadership and commitment to unity.
“Your Majesty, we sincerely thank you for all you are doing to ensure that Nyo-Khana communities remain peaceful and progressive. Your constant engagement has strengthened unity among our people,” Sampson said.
He described the monarch’s generosity and fatherly disposition as rare and worthy of emulation.
“What we have witnessed today is uncommon. Your generosity and inclusive leadership deserve respect and honour,” he added.
The visiting traditional rulers reaffirmed their loyalty and commitment to cooperation, peace and development across Nyo-Khana and Khana at large.
The visit ended on a note of renewed solidarity, with the rulers pledging to work closely with the Bangha Palace to sustain peace, unity and progress as Khana and Ogoni land begin the year 2026.
