Lagos, Nigeria — Nigerian recording artist Benny Zanda, born Oamen Samuel Osehoje, is steadily gaining attention for a career that blends music, medicine, and entrepreneurship—an uncommon combination shaping his rise in Nigeria’s creative space.
Benny Zanda is currently a final-year medical student at Babcock University, where he trained alongside fellow student doctors including Owolabi Emmanuel, Victor Oluwasola, Emeka-Anyaeji Chioma, Uche Aguocha, Ibekwe Cynthia Chinonye, Daniel Ohis, Pastor Alalade Olorunwa Barnabas, Oluwaseun Oluwatobi, Umeh-Kenneth Mirabel, and Isaiah Draco. During his academic journey, he was briefly affiliated with the Nigerian Association of Adventist Students (NAAS) and the Adventist Medical Student Association of Nigeria (AMAN). He is the middle child of three, with a junior sister, Abigail, and an older brother, Precious.
Professionally known as Benny Zanda, the artist officially began releasing music under this name in 2025. Since then, his catalog has accumulated over 200,000 streams across digital platforms, with his music reaching listeners in more than 50 countries, reflecting a growing international footprint.
Beyond music and medicine, Zanda is also involved in entrepreneurship. He runs and works with teams of social media advertisers serving Y Combinator–funded businesses, delivering performance-focused digital campaigns. In addition, he oversees an analysis team supporting research projects, alongside other structured business ventures he formally manages.
His creative roots are deeply familial. His mother is a songwriter and serial entrepreneur who has founded primary and secondary schools in Bayelsa State and Rivers State. His father, Pastor Victor Oamen Ebhodaghe, M.Div. (AUA, Kenya), is an ordained Seventh-day Adventist Church pastor of over 15 years and currently serves as Director of Sabbath School, Port-Harcourt West Conference. He holds a degree in Psychology and completed his Master of Divinity at the Adventist University of Africa Theological Seminary, with a focus on the New Testament.
Zanda’s mindset has often been likened to a popular quote by veteran actor Pete Edochie, which encourages decisive action against life’s toughest obstacles rather than surrendering to stagnation. Observers describe Benny Zanda as respectful in his dealings with teams and clients, while consistently pushing boundaries even before results are visible.
Musically, Benny Zanda’s songwriting reflects themes of aspiration, relief from struggle, celebration, ambition, and affection. His song “Moneycetamol” uses everyday metaphors to describe financial relief and emotional ease, while “Bread” leans into rhythmic wordplay and social commentary. His love-themed track “Olamide” explores romance, devotion, and emotional connection, combining melodic hooks with expressive storytelling. Short lyrical phrases such as “Moneycetamol e dey cure” and “If love is real, baby it’s you” have become recognizable to listeners.
As he approaches the completion of his medical degree, Benny Zanda continues to represent a new generation of Nigerian creatives—one that refuses to be boxed into a single identity, choosing instead to pursue excellence across multiple disciplines.
Benny Zanda is a Nigerian recording artist and final-year medical student whose work blends contemporary African sounds with personal storytelling. He began releasing music professionally in 2025 and continues to grow his audience globally.
