Lagos Ikoyi Elite Lions Club gives assistance to vulnerable families in Agege

Hunger remains a pressing challenge even in urban and semi-urban communities, including affluent cities. Initiatives such as food distribution, feeding programmes, and support for orphanages, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and vulnerable families create immediate and visible impact, while strengthening community trust in Lions Clubs.

It was in line with this commitment, that Lagos Ikoyi Elite Lions Club, District 404A3 Nigeria, successfully carried out a humanitarian service activity tagged “Relieving Hunger” recently at Agege Stadium, Agege, Lagos State, as part of the Lions Clubs International and District 404A3 Nigeria ‘Relieving Hunger Project.’

The initiative was designed to provide food assistance to vulnerable families within the community. During the activity, over 100 families received food packs containing rice, salt, noodles, macaroni, spaghetti and other essential household condiments, carefully assembled to meet immediate nutritional needs.

The project recorded a positive and meaningful impact on beneficiaries and further reinforced the club’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian service and community development.

Speaking at the event, President of Lagos Ikoyi Elite Lions Club, Lion Abdulkarim Yusuf, who also serves as the Zone 2A Chairperson, District 404A3, emphasized that Relieving Hunger is one of the eight global causes of Lions Clubs International. He noted that the initiative is particularly dear to the heart of the International President, given the rising levels of hunger worldwide resulting from ongoing global economic challenges.

The Coordinator of the activity, Lion Olajumoke Shittu, who also doubles as the Club Secretary, expressed her appreciation to all club members for their active participation and support.and reaffirmed the club’s dedication to promoting community welfare and sustaining initiatives that address basic human needs.

Notable Lions in attendance included Lion TPL Soledotun Abdulkarim-Yusuf, the Club Membership Director and District Global Service Team Coordinator (DGST), District 404A3, as well as Lion John Dada Adams, the immediate past president of the Club. The Club’s youth arm, FCFMT Leo Club, was also represented and led by its President, Leo Segun Odunjo.

Although unavoidably absent, the Service Chairperson of the Club, Lion Valentina Ibirogba-Unaji, sent her goodwill message and encouraged the Club to continue delivering impactful and meaningful service activities throughout the Lions Year.
