JALINGO – Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has designated Karim-Lamido Local Government Area as a Special Area of Security Concern following what he described as a careful assessment of the security situation and consultations with relevant authorities.
The governor said the decision is a preventive and stabilising measure aimed at protecting lives, property and livelihoods, as well as ensuring peaceful coexistence within the local government area.
Kefas clarified that civil authority has not been suspended and that the declaration does not target any community, religion or ethnic group.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Yusuf Sanda, the governor assured residents that all lawful activities, including farming, trading, worship and local administration, will continue without disruption.
According to the statement, “The Special Area of Security Concern designation allows for enhanced coordination among security agencies, intelligence-led patrols and surveillance, lawful regulation of activities in identified flashpoint zones, and strengthened community-based early warning mechanisms.”
The governor further explained that the measure is temporary and will be subject to periodic review, adding that its implementation will be “strictly guided by the Constitution and respect for fundamental human rights.”
