Nsukka — Hon. Chidi Obetta, member representing Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, has said South East stakeholders unanimously defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to strengthen the zone’s connection to the centre of governance.
Obetta explained that South East politicians were previously divided across multiple parties, which limited the region’s influence. He noted that uniting under APC and aligning with President Bola Tinubu would benefit all residents of the South East.
He made the disclosure while flagging off APC’s e-registration exercise at his Ibagwa Ani/Okpaligbo Ward in Nsukka Local Government Area on Monday, urging party members to ensure they are registered.
Obetta also highlighted the achievements of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, APC’s leader in the state, noting that development projects—including Smart Green Schools and Type 2 hospitals—have been distributed across all 260 political wards. He added, “Governor Mbah has assured free education from Primary 1 to JSS 3 in Smart Green Schools, along with free feeding and medical programmes. Joining the ruling party will enable our wards to fully benefit from these initiatives.”
“Connecting to the government at the centre will allow the South East to fully benefit from national schemes. That is why all our stakeholders decided to join President Bola Tinubu in APC,” Obetta said.
Speaking during the event, Nsukka Local Government Chairman, Chinedu Asogwa, said that all political parties in the area have collapsed into APC to benefit from the development dividends being implemented by Governor Mbah. He added that the ongoing e-registration exercise aims to register 2,000,000 voters statewide, with Nsukka expected to contribute up to 300,000 voters.
APC Chairman in Nsukka, Chris Ezema, urged party faithful to register, describing APC as the “winning team” and a goal-oriented party poised to sweep the 2027 general election.
The flag-off was attended by numerous stakeholders across Nsukka Local Government Area.
