ENUGU — About 200 residents of Amufie autonomous community in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, Enugu State, benefited from a free medical outreach organised by the non-governmental organisation Ultimate Club of Nigeria on Monday.

The event, themed “That I May Be in Health, John 3:1-2,” provided essential drugs, treatment for ailments including high blood pressure and malaria, health education, general body check-ups, and counselling. Major surgeries were not part of the services offered.

Mr. Martin Ifeanyichukwu Eze, President of the club, said the initiative aims to save lives and promote community health, with plans to expand similar programs across the Igbo-Eze North council area.

“The club is ‘Sowing for Sustenance’ through practical health interventions that promote wellbeing and sustainable development of the community,” he said.

Eze explained that the outreach began at 10:15 a.m. with a health talk and orientation, and concluded at 7:56 p.m. “A total of over 200 patients were attended to during the exercise. The outreach was interactive with the support of volunteers who assisted with health checks, counselling, and other activities,” he said.

He credited the success of the program to the guidance of Chief Odo Robinson (MNI), whose advice contributed significantly to the smooth execution of the outreach.

The medical team, led by Dr. Christopher Odoja Odo, conducted assessments that revealed high incidences of hypertension (40%), arthritis (30%), malaria (15%), gastrointestinal issues (10.5%), and other conditions.

“All patients received appropriate medical attention, counselling, and medications where necessary. Cases requiring advanced evaluation and long-term management were referred to secondary healthcare facilities for further care and follow-up,” Eze added, reaffirming the club’s commitment to sustainable health development in the community.
