Global music technology and digital distribution company, Yivera Co, has recently appointed renowned music executive, Dr. Wilson Joel, to its Board of Directors as a Non-Executive Director.
The appointment which took effect on December 8, 2025, coincides with preparations for the rollout of the company’s second phase focused on strengthening governance and expanding its international footprint within the global music industry.
Dr. Joel, popularly known as MusicMagnate, is a United States–based media entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in music and digital media. A member of the Recording Academy (GRAMMYs®) and a senior member of the South African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO), he known for his nine-year tenure as Music Director of House on the Rock’s The Experience Lagos, one of Africa’s largest gospel music events.
In his new role, he will provide independent oversight and strategic input at board level, drawing on his international experience, industry networks and expertise in rights management and creator compensation.
Announcing the appointment, Yivera’s Chief Executive Officer, Martins Okonkwo, described it as a major milestone. “Dr. Wilson Joel’s experience with global institutions such as Universal Music Group and Sony Music, combined with his creative work reaching over 40 million listeners worldwide, brings exceptional depth to our Board as we expand across Africa, North America and beyond,” he said.
Dr. Joel’s career also spans music production and film scoring, with credits including Tango with Me and Hakkunde, as well as producing the Nigerian National Anthem for EbonyLife Television. His honours include a Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) in Music and Management, as well as multiple industry awards.
