A pan-African education platform, Edukate Africa, in partnership with the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, and the University of Lagos, with the support of the Federal Ministry of Education, will on January 29, 2026, host the much-anticipated disruptED Africa Summit, aimed at redefining education financing, innovation and talent development on the continent.

The high-level summit, scheduled to hold at the University of Lagos, is expected to bring together key stakeholders from government, the private sector, academia, investment circles and the innovation ecosystem to evolve practical and market-responsive solutions for Africa’s education infrastructure.

Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday, at the National Stadium, Lagos, Directors of Edukate Africa, Messrs Tosin Adebisi and Francis Omorojie, described the summit as a strategic continental platform designed to unlock scalable financing models and drive sustainable, inclusive and future-ready education systems.

They disclosed that confirmed participants include the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa; Executive Provost and Vice-Principal of the University of Birmingham, Prof. Nick Vaughan-Williams; Chief Operating Officer of Semicilon Africa, Ashley Immanuel; and Chief Executive Officer of Sterling One Foundation, Mrs. Olapeju Ibekwe.

According to them, deliberations will focus on policy reforms, blended finance mechanisms, regulatory frameworks and digital transformation, with emphasis on strengthening public-private partnerships capable of accelerating access, equity and quality in education across Africa.

While highlighting the core objective of the summit, Omorojie, said: “Africa’s biggest constraint to unlocking its vast talent potential is not ambition or ideas, but access to financing models that reflect the continent’s realities.

“The disruptED Africa Summit is designed to be a springboard for innovative, context-driven financing initiatives that expand access to opportunity. At the summit, Edukate Africa will launch the Communiversity Endowment Fund, a preservative, community-led fund aimed at providing critical financing for vulnerable but high-potential talents, while supporting students to transition into scalable and sustainable entrepreneurship through seed grants for innovative solutions.”

He added that the programme lineup includes High-Power Panels on the Future of Work, innovation competitions such as Africathon, Pitch-My-Dissertation Challenge, and the maiden Inter-University Africa Debates between the University of Lagos and the University of Ghana, endowed by the Ichikowitz Family Foundation.

On his part, Adebisi noted that the initiatives were targeted at amplifying youth voices, promoting problem-solving, and aligning academic output with industry and policy needs.

The organisers stressed that the summit would serve as a convergence point for policymakers, investors, educators, innovators and students committed to community building, economic growth and human capital development, while fostering partnerships that will deliver sustainable, policy-aligned and market-driven educational outcomes across the continent.
