The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Benjamin Kalu, has called on Igbo leaders and stakeholders in Abia State to invest their votes wisely, stressing that strategic political support today can secure the region’s future influence at the national level.

Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, made the remarks during a series of courtesy visits across Abia’s three senatorial zones—Abia North, Central, and South—aimed at strengthening party structures, fostering unity, and aligning stakeholders with national political objectives.

During his tour, the Deputy Speaker met with key figures, including former Senate Chief Whip and ex-Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North), Senator John Bob Nwannunu (Abia Central), and prominent APC chieftain Sir Mac Wabara (Abia South).

At all meetings, Kalu emphasized the need for party cohesion, reconciliation, and sustained collaboration to promote the growth of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and political stability in Nigeria.

“The President’s message is clear: leaders must reach out, set aside divisive tendencies, and work collectively to build a stronger, more cohesive party and nation,” Kalu said.

Votes as Strategic Investment

Highlighting the broader national political landscape, Kalu urged the Igbo to be pragmatic in their political decisions. He stressed that supporting the Southwest at this time represents the shortest route to securing an Igbo presidency in the future.

“Any vote that is cast without strategic intent is wasted,” Kalu said. “The vote we hold is our currency for investments. If we invest it wisely in the current political configuration, it will count. Sentiments and emotions must not cloud this calculation.”

He added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies have demonstrated fairness toward the Igbo, noting that infrastructure projects and allocations are being handled without discrimination.

Accountability and Party Mobilization

Kalu also presented his two-year scorecard to the elder statesmen and party leaders, inviting critique to enhance accountability and service delivery.

“I believe leadership must be subjected to scrutiny. Presenting my scorecard allows for honest assessment and improvement,” he said.

The Deputy Speaker charged APC stakeholders to intensify grassroots mobilization and strategic engagement, declaring that Abia APC is now positioned to deliver an outright victory for President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

“The era of negotiating for just 25 percent of votes is over,” Kalu said. “With growing grassroots support and renewed unity, Abia APC can deliver a convincing win for the party and the President.”

Elder statesmen who attended the meetings commended Kalu for his performance in the National Assembly, describing his interventions as impactful and people-oriented. They pledged continued support for party initiatives and committed to mobilizing grassroots participation to ensure APC’s success in future elections.
