SOKOTO :–The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has commenced the electronic registration of party members, marking a major organisational step ahead of the party’s 2026 primaries and the 2027 general elections.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Sokoto State APC Executive Council held on Thursday at the party Secretariat Diplomat area Sokoto, where the leadership formally approved the statewide rollout of the e-registration exercise.

Chairman of the party in the state, Hon. Isa Sadiq Achida, who presided over the meeting, said the initiative aligns with the APC’s national drive to strengthen internal democracy, enhance credibility and build a verifiable membership database ahead of critical electoral contests.

According to him, members of the state executive council have undergone specialised training on the electronic registration process, while computer experts and trained enumerators have been engaged to ensure a smooth, transparent and credible exercise across all local government areas.

“The electronic registration will enable the party to accurately identify and document its members before, during and after the primaries and the general election,” Achida said. “It is a critical tool for planning, mobilisation and effective party administration.”

In a symbolic start to the exercise, the APC leadership registered Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, former Governor of Sokoto State, as the state party leader, alongside other party executives.

The state Deputy Governor Eng. Idris Muhammad Gobir, the minister of labour and productivity Muhammadu Mai Gari Dingyadi, the Minister of state for Works Barrister Muhammad Bello Goronyo and Ambassador Kulu Haruna Abubakar also register as card carrying members of the APC in the state.

Speaking shortly after the registration, Senator Wamakko commended the state executive council for its loyalty, resilience and sustained commitment to strengthening the APC in Sokoto and beyond. He described the electronic registration initiative as a timely reform that would position the party for greater electoral success.

He urged residents of the state to embrace the APC, citing what he described as the party’s people oriented policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare and living standards of Nigerians.

“The APC will continue to grow stronger, especially with the steady influx of members from opposition parties, notably the PDP,” Wamakko said. “This registration exercise will give us a clear and credible record of our strength in Sokoto State.”

Party officials further disclosed that adequate security measures have been put in place for registration officers and enumerators to ensure the exercise reaches all party members across the state without hindrance.

The electronic registration, they noted, will provide an accurate and reliable database of APC members in Sokoto State, reinforcing the party’s preparedness for the 2026 primaries and the 2027 general elections, while aligning the state chapter with the APC’s broader national reform agenda.
