
Benin City is set to host the 2nd Lady Kate Imuetinyan Obaseki Colloquium on January 29, 2026, at Wellspring University’s auditorium on Irhirhi Road.
The event, which marks what would have been Mama Obaseki’s landmark celebration, will feature prominent academics, guest lecturers, and alumni of the University of Benin Demonstration Secondary School (UDSS) discussing advances in health, education, and community development.
Emeritus Prof Osato Giwa-Osagie, OON, Obarisiagbon of Benin Kingdom, and Prof Oladipo Afolabi, former Head of Service of the Federation, are scheduled to serve as Chairman and Unveiler of the Lady Kate Imuetinyan Obaseki Foundation, respectively. The plenary session will be moderated by Professor Darlington Obaseki, former Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
Guest lecturers include Prof Ehijie F.O. Enato, Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at the University of Benin; Dr Ehondor Ogie Tada, Specialist Physician in Internal Medicine/Pulmonology; and The Venerable (Engr.) Osazee David Egbenusi, JP (Esq.), a clergyman, lawyer, engineer, administrator, and scholar.
The lecturers will speak on topics such as Advances in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Management: A Multidisciplinary Approach, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in Nigeria: The Invisible Burden, Missed Diagnosis, and System Gaps, and One Breath Away: The Sacrifice That Changes Everything.
A panel discussion will feature four distinguished academics; Dr Peter Ikponmwosa Agbonrofo, Prof Esohe O. Ogboghodo, Prof Penaere T. Osahon, and Prof Ighodaro Igbe, who are all alumni of the University of Benin Demonstration Secondary School (UDSS).
The Vice Chancellor of Wellspring University, Prof Rotimi Ajayi, who is the Chief Host, will deliver the welcome address.
The colloquium aims to advance discussions on health, education, and community development while celebrating the legacy of Lady Kate Imuetinyan Obaseki.
