No fewer than seven people were injured as a two-storey building under construction collapsed in Akure on Tuesday.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), an eyewitness who preferred anonymity, said workers at the building site were victims of the collapse and had been taken to the hospital for treatment.
Speaking on the collapse, the state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Sunday Olajide, said investigations would be launched to uncover both the immediate and long-term causes of the incident.
Olajide, who spoke to newsmen, warned developers in the state to desist from using substandard building materials and advised them to prioritise the safety of residents.
He tasked developers with always securing the necessary permits and approvals before carrying out construction projects.
The commissioner added that the state government had sealed off the construction site to take further action based on the outcome of the investigation.
