A coalition of Southern Kaduna support groups, under the umbrella of the Karkara Ta Asiwaju da Uba Sani Organisation, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.) as Minister of Defence, describing the move as strategic and timely.
The coalition disclosed its position on Thursday during a press conference held at Epitome Hotel, Barnawa, Kaduna.
Speaking on behalf of the groups, the Convener, Jonah Pompo, said the appointment of the former Chief of Defence Staff reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture with experienced and proven professionals.
He stated that General Musa’s track record in military leadership, patriotic service, and contributions to national security makes him a suitable choice to oversee the nation’s defence sector at a critical time.
Pompo also commended Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for what he described as his “strategic role” in supporting the nomination, adding that the governor has continued to demonstrate empathy, courage and a people-centred leadership style since assuming office.
He noted that the synergy among President Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani and General Musa during Musa’s tenure as Chief of Defence Staff contributed significantly to stabilising several communities and improving local security responses in parts of Kaduna State.
According to him, the coalition believes that with General Musa now serving at the federal level as Defence Minister, security interventions in Kaduna State and across Nigeria will benefit from enhanced coordination and improved outcomes.
The groups further urged Nigerians across political, ethnic and religious divides to support the Tinubu administration, noting that reforms introduced by the President were beginning to show signs of long-term benefit despite initial challenges.
They also praised Governor Uba Sani for his inclusive governance style and commitment to human development, which they said had helped restore public confidence in leadership in Kaduna State.
Reaffirming their support for both leaders, the coalition expressed optimism that stronger collaboration between the federal and state governments would lead to improved intelligence sharing, quicker security responses, and more robust community-based initiatives.
The coalition concluded with a call for unity and collective effort in nation-building, while praying for peace and progress in Kaduna State and Nigeria.
