A former member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos, has declared that leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is now “an imminent and strategic decision,” citing worsening internal crises and the party’s inability to provide a stable national platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bagos, who represented Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency from 2019 to November 2023, said the PDP has lost the unity, structure, and organizational discipline needed to field credible candidates or defend mandates nationwide.
In a strongly worded statement on Friday, Bagos lamented that the party’s leadership crisis marked by competing factions led by Umar Damagum (Turaki) and Iliya Damagun (Abdularam) has rendered the PDP incapable of guaranteeing stability for its members.
“The most basic question remains unanswered: Who is leading the PDP at the national level?” he queried. “A political party that cannot resolve its own leadership cannot defend the mandate of its candidates.”
He warned that Plateau State cannot afford to repeat the “painful experience” of 2023, when elected PDP officials in the state lost their seats in court due to the party’s lack of structure at the national level.
“Our people suffered for it. Our political stability suffered. And our collective mandate was exposed due to internal disunity,” Bagos said.
With the 2027 elections drawing closer, the former lawmaker insisted that Plateau needs a cohesive and nationally aligned political platform one capable of protecting votes, defending candidates, and securing lasting political stability.
He stressed that Plateau’s political interests must take precedence over sentiments, noting that the state must align with a “stable, visionary” party that offers national presence and strategic advantage.
“We must align with a political structure that is stable, visionary, and nationally present one that can give Plateau the voice, protection, and opportunity it deserves in the coming political season,” he stated.
Bagos added that any future political decisions he and like-minded leaders take will be aimed at safeguarding Plateau’s collective mandate and ensuring the state stands on “unity, strength, and progress not confusion and crisis.”
“For Plateau’s future, a new political direction is “not just necessary it is inevitable.”
