ENUGU — A group identifying itself as Concerned Mburubu Youth has issued a statement denying recent allegations levelled against the Enugu State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Prince Lawrence Ezeh.
In the statement, the youth group described the reports — which accused the commissioner of arming youths, sponsoring violence, and manipulating security agencies — as false and politically motivated. They said the claims were being used to pressure authorities over the selection of a traditional leader in the community.
The group urged readers to treat the allegations with caution, saying no verifiable police documents, court records or authenticated evidence had been produced to support the claims. They maintained that much of what was being circulated consisted of edited videos, unverified recordings and hearsay, and called for any evidence to be published so it could be independently assessed. “If they have real evidence, they should publish it,” the statement said.
The youths highlighted what they described as Prince Ezeh’s long-standing contributions to Mburubu, including scholarships, youth development initiatives, support for community infrastructure and engagement with development partners. They questioned the plausibility of the allegations in light of those contributions.
“Is it the same man who has supported the community for years who would suddenly bring it harm?” the statement asked.
The statement linked the dispute to tensions around the selection of a traditional ruler in Mburubu, and said the commissioner had opposed actions he considered inconsistent with due process. The youths said this disagreement may have contributed to the recent accusations.
The Concerned Mburubu Youth urged security agencies and the state government to handle the matter through proper investigative channels and to rely on verified evidence before drawing conclusions.
They also asked the public and media to avoid spreading unverified claims that could inflame tensions, and to wait for authoritative findings from law enforcement or the courts.
The statement praised the commissioner’s involvement in state initiatives — including projects related to digital innovation and the Enugu Smart City agenda — and urged that his public role be considered when evaluating the allegations.
The youth group called for calm and impartial investigation, stressing that allegations should be proven in the appropriate fora before reputations are damaged. They asked authorities to ensure any claims are thoroughly examined and for community leaders to pursue lawful, transparent processes in resolving the dispute.
