A traveler has accused Akwa Ibom State owned airline, Ibom Air, of causing her distress following the alleged loss of valuable items from her checked luggage.
The passenger, Mrs Eze Martina, who travelled with her four children on an Ibom Air flight from the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos to Enugu on Saturday, December 20, 2025, said she discovered that several items were missing from her luggage upon arrival.
Speaking to Vanguard, Martina’s elder brother, Mr. Tony Eze said when his sister arrived at their residence in Enugu, she discovered that 17 shirts, six polo shirts, nine up and down tracksuits meant for sale, five ball gowns, two shoes, one designer perfume, four ball gowns belonging to one of her children and three track suits belonging to another child of hers could not be found.
He said: “My sister, Mrs Eze Martina and four kids, Eze Chisimdi, Eze Chikamso, Eze Ikenna and Eze Chizitel, traveled to Enugu on board Ibom Air from MMA 2, Ikeja, Lagos and to her greatest surprise, when she got home, she discovered that some items are missing in the luggage.”
He further told Vanguard that when his sister reported the incident to Ibom Air’s office in Enugu, she was informed that the airline’s operations manager was not available to speak to her.
Meanwhile, a similar theft of a customer’s valuables was also reported in Owerri, Imo state the same day.
This time, it involved a lady who returned from the United States of America and boarded Ibom flight in Lagos to Owerri.
The lady whose husband got across to Vanguard promised to send details of his wife’s flight but as at the time of going to press, he was yet to send the details.
Efforts by Vanguard to reach Ibom Air’s Group Manager, Marketing and Communications, Annie Essienette, over the issue were unsuccessful as calls to her phone were not answered.
When Vanguard called another staff member of the airline identified as a top management staff member on the phone, he simply replied:”Tell the person to report the matter there. We will investigate.”
