The Federal Road Safety Corps, has unveiled the maiden edition of its Safewheel Nigeria magazine, a new publication designed to boost public enlightenment, promote safer road use, and document the Corps’ national impact.
Speaking at the launch on Thursday in Abuja, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Muhammed, said mobility remains central to economic growth and noted that Nigeria must continue to invest in knowledge, innovation, and responsible road culture.
Muhammed explained that the Corps has strengthened intelligence-driven patrols, logistics, and staff training, especially during the peak festive travel season.
He highlighted recent efforts including free medical outreach for commercial drivers and the Corps’ victories in national sporting events.
He added that the new media platform would provide Nigerians with a structured avenue for feedback, insight, and national dialogue on safe mobility.
In his remarks, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, represented by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, described road safety as a key component of national security.
He noted that a safe road network is critical for trade, tourism, and regional integration and praised the magazine as a tool that will showcase Nigeria’s innovations to the global community.
He said, “Every life lost to a road traffic crash is not just a statistic. It is a profound loss to a family, a community, and our nation’s human capital. Road safety is a universal concern and a key pillar of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
“As a member of the global community, Nigeria actively participates in international forums dedicated to improving transport safety and sustainable mobility.
“The SafeWheel Nigeria magazine will serve as an ambassador of Nigeria’s commitment to global best practices, fostering dialogue with other nations, multilateral organizations, and global safety advocates. Information is the bridge between policy and practice, and this publication will help shape attitudes and save lives,” he said.
Chairman of Marketing + Media Ltd, Toe Ekechi, who chaired the unveiling, commended the Corps for creating a platform to document its sacrifices and achievements.
He described the magazine as an intervention that will educate the public, motivate officers, and unify road safety messages across commands.
He urged the Corps to continue telling its own stories, saying its work had long gone uncelebrated.
The Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, said the magazine represents the beginning of a national movement for safer roads.
He expressed appreciation to the Corps Marshal for mandating the publication and thanked partners including NCC, NASENI, CNG Initiative, the Great Green Wall Agency, UBEG, Galaxy Backbone, NABZEH, Customs and other institutions supporting the FRSC’s mission.
According to him, the publication will feature expert analysis, community impact stories, innovations, and guidance for road users nationwide.
He said the Safewheel Nigeria magazine serves as a platform for advocacy, collaboration, and behavioral change, calling on government bodies, private sector players, and transport operators to support the initiative.
