Foundation fosters unity in Oyo communities through education, sports

The Olusegun Okanlawon Foundation, OOF, under the leadership of its Founder and Chairman, Amb. David Okanlawon, will climax its ongoing end-of-year community engagement programmes across the Ibarapa zone of Oyo State with a grand presentation of gifts and awards on December 27 and 28.

The two-week end-of-year community engagement programmes, which kicked off on the 15th, are aimed at promoting unity, youth development and social cohesion within the communities, with the final two days reserved for honouring outstanding participants and winners across the various activities.

Director of the OOF/DOO Media and Public Relations Unit, Mr. Sunday Harshasha, said the 27th and 28th ceremonies mark the grand finale of the Foundation’s annual interventions, coming shortly after the successful second edition of the Olusegun Okanlawon Mathematics Competition for senior secondary schools in the zone.
According to him, the academic competition laid a strong foundation for the broader community-focused activities now underway.
Harshasha said: “While the Mathematics Competition set the tone for intellectual engagement, the focus has now shifted to wider community participation, interaction and unity, culminating in the presentation of gifts and awards during the final days of the programme.”
He explained that the Mathematics Competition, which featured students from secondary schools across Ibarapa, rewarded outstanding performances with cash prizes of N150,000, N100,000 and N50,000 for first, second and third positions respectively.

“The initiative reinforced the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to youth development and educational advancement as part of its broader social responsibility agenda,” he added.
Harshasha further noted that the academic event was deliberately designed to complement the Foundation’s end-of-year community programmes.

“The Mathematics Competition was a build-up to the end-of-year activities. It reflects Okanlawon’s belief in striking a balance between intellectual development and community bonding through social engagement,” he said.

Describing the two-week event as a unifying platform, Harshasha said it is designed to foster peace, healthy competition and camaraderie among communities in the Ibarapa zone, with winners and participants set to be celebrated during the December 27 and 28 award ceremonies.
He noted that activities lined up for the fiesta include a marathon competition, inter-community football tournaments for both male and female teams, Ayo Olopon games for both genders, as well as a draught competition, all of which will culminate in the presentation of prizes, gifts and awards on the final days.

Through its interventions, he said, the Foundation has consistently deployed education and sports as practical tools for strengthening social cohesion and nurturing talent across Ibarapa.
Reaffirming the Foundation’s vision, Harshasha stated: “Okanlawon remains deeply committed to initiatives that unite the people of Ibarapa and promote collective development.”

He encouraged residents, youth groups, schools and other community stakeholders to actively participate.
