Niger United of Minna defeated Correction Boys 28-26 in a thrilling tie played yesterday at the second phase of the ongoing Ardova Handball Premier League in Lagos.
Both teams came out with intent in the opening moments of the game spreading passes, scoring and defending with gusto.
However, the Niger United team coached by Adebayo Yekini, who seems to be having a good run, raced into a 16-12 lead at the end of the first half.
At the beginning of the second half, the Correction Boys stepped up their game but their forays were curtailed by United to win the game 28-26. United had their solid defence to thank in the dying moments of the encounter.
In the female category, Omo Ogiefo defeated Rivers Queens 38-24 to continue their rise on the table. The Benin-based team were at their best again Queens who looked subdued towards the end of the game.
Imo Grasshoppers of Owerri defeated Ekiti Queens 40–21 to record the biggest win in the women’s category on Day 8 of the Ardova Handball Premier League 2025 Phase 2.
The Grasshoppers dominated the game from the start, taking a strong 22–9 lead in the first half and controlling the match until the final whistle.
n another tough contest, Defending Champion and league leaders Safety Babes defeated Defender Babes 32–27. Safety Babes led 15–11 at the break and maintained their advantage to take all the points.
In other results in the women’s category, Omo Ogiefo Academy defeated Rivers Queens 38–24. Omo Ogiefo started well with a 17–9 halftime lead and kept up the momentum throughout the match.
Rima Queens fought back in their game to beat Plateau Peacocks 27–23. Plateau Peacocks were ahead 16–14 at halftime, but Rima Queens improved in the second half to secure the win.
