Nigeria’s former Ambassador to China, Baba Ahmed Jidda had applauded philanthropist Muhammadu Indimi for his generous donation of ₦2 billion to support educational development
at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
Vanguard reports that Ambassador Jidda who also served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Burkina Faso, stated that Indimi’s donation will significantly impact UNIMAID’s educational development as the institution marks its 25th Convocation and 50 years anniversary.
The donation made by Indimi, a renowned businessman and chairman of Oriental Energy Resources is part of efforts to enhance the university’s research capabilities and provide quality education to students.
Speaking during a press conference held in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, Jidda, also a former Secretary to the Borno State Government, commended Indimi’s commitment to education and philanthropy, noting that Indimi’s support for UNIMAID spans over a decade.
“I will like to commend Muhammadu Indimi for his generous donation of N2 billion to UNIMAID. Its important to note that the genesis of Indimi’s support to UNIMAID began back in 2014 .
“I was requested by then Borno State Governor and now Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent him at the commissioning of a project donated by the business mogul to Lynn University in Florida, United States of America (USA) .
“While in Florida, I advised Dr Indimi to replicate a similar gesture in Borno State. I’m very happy today; Dr Indimi has continued to support UNIMAID immensely.
“Apart from the N2 billion support, Indimi had built a magnificent International Learning Centre at UNIMAID”. He said
Ambassador Jidda also praised the Borno State Governor prof Babagana Zulum, who received an honorary Doctorate of Science degree from UNIMAID, along with two others.
“I congratulate Prof. Zulum on this well-deserved award. I also congratulate Sir Emeka Offor, who donated ₦1.5 billion to support the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital ( UMTH), and the Emir of Kazaure, Najib Hussaini Adamu, on their honorary Doctorate degrees”. Ambassador Jidda stated.
