The Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has declared that it will not enter into any alliance with other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that it will field candidates for all elective positions in the state.

The party’s National Vice Chairman (South West), Comrade Abayomi Arabambi, who made the declaration while addressing party members at the swearing-in of the newly elected State Executive Committee in Abeokuta, said the party was determined to end what he described as maladministration by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The ceremony, held at the Iwe-Iroyin Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, attracted party faithful from the local government areas of the state.

Arabambi, however, clarified that despite the party’s resolve to contest all positions in Ogun State, the Labour Party would support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

According to him, the party would mobilise maximum support for the President across the South West States.

Commenting on the N1.6 trillion proposed 2026 budget presented by Governor Dapo Abiodun to the State House of Assembly on December 3, Arabambi described the budget as unsustainable and potentially harmful to the long-term economic wellbeing of the state.

He argued that the size and structure of the budget reflected poor fiscal judgement and urged the Abiodun administration to moderate its growth to a more realistic and sustainable level.

He also called for a clear and credible financing framework that would reduce reliance on volatile revenue sources and excessive borrowing, while ensuring that all proposed projects undergo rigorous and independent assessment.

Arabambi accused the current administration of failing to deliver meaningful socio-economic improvements to the people of the state, alleging that residents continued to suffer under ineffective policies.

“What is being presented as a N1.6 trillion budget cannot be regarded as a sustainable legacy. A genuine legacy must be rooted in fiscal responsibility, transparent governance and expenditure that aligns with secure and verifiable revenue.”

“This government has failed the Ogun people. We will take every necessary measure to remove the ruling APC in 2027 and offer a people-centred alternative,” he said.

“Budgets should serve as instruments of development rather than political statements. Unchecked borrowing and unrealistic projections could mortgage the future of the state.”

In her remarks, the newly inaugurated State Chairman, Hon. Oluwabukola Soyoye, pledged inclusive leadership and promised to carry all party members along in the administration of the party.

She thanked party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in her, assuring them that she would not disappoint.

“Together, let us build a Nigeria and an Ogun State where every citizen has access to quality education, healthcare and economic opportunities,” she said. “Let us work towards a society where our people can live with dignity and where our nation can prosper and grow.”

Other newly inaugurated state executives include Prince Ade Adesanya as State Secretary; Hon. Mojisola Ajayi and Temitayo Aluko as Assistant Secretaries; and Comrade Fesomade Gbadebo as State Treasurer, among others.
