Our Lord Jesus said in Mark 9 vs. 23( JKV): “ Jesus said unto him, If thou cast believe , all things are possible to him that believeth”.
The emphasis in the statement made by our Lord is belief.
This simply means that belief is crucial to the miracle we expect.
Let’s consider the circumstance in which Christ made this statement.
Mark 9 vs.17 & 18 gives us the background that led to Christ’s comments.
“ And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dump spirit;
And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnashed with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not”.
Jesus asked that the young man be brought closer. Verses 20 &21: “ And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, of a child”.
The father’s response to the Lord’s question indicated that the challenge has been with the young man since he was a child.
Brethren, from this story you will see that the boy and his family had suffered shame, isolation and mockery.
This reproach had stigmatized the family and they had tried their best but the stubborn challenge remained with them.
Let’s imagine how long his parents and siblings have spent days and nights shedding tears because they found no solution to the challenge
Perhaps there is someone reading this article that has been a victim of a challenge that has made you a subject of mockery. A challenge that has made you shed tears yet it remained.
The good news for you brother and sister is that the days of shame, mockery and isolation would end once you belief and act your belief.
After Jesus made the statement that all things are possible to them that belief, the Holy Bible record tells us what happened in verses 24 -27: “ And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.”
Let’s note that the father of the challenged child told Jesus “ Lord I believe; help thou mine unbelief”.
In other words, he knew that the level of his belief was not enough to command a miracle into the life of his son. Hence he asked that Jesus should help his unbelief.
Brethren, many of us are at the level of the belief that this man father had before he met Jesus.
Reading the story further, you could see that the disciples quietly asked Jesus why they couldn’t rebuke the evil spirit out of the young man though they had tried.
Verses 28&29: “ And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out.?
And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting”.
Brethren, a major lesson for us in the is story is the father of the young man got tired of tears that didn’t produce any solution to the challenge hence he cried to Jesus.
The year is coming to an end but you need to put end to that challenge by crying to the one that is master over all challenges.
Cry to the one that can put an end to any challenge, JESUS.
You may not physically see Jesus to ask him to help your unbelief as the man in the Bible passage did but you have the Comforter, the Holy Spirit with you.
Indeed, you have God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit to help your unbelief but you must ask for that help.
Remember, only those that ask receive and as you cry to God, you will receive in Jesus name.
Beloved, your church might have had its period of fasting this year, you can create your own days for fasting and prayer to put an end to the stubborn challenge.
Since no true church can do without prayers, continue to join fellow worshippers to pray but more importantly, take your prayer life to the next level with the determination of a person who is desperate for a break through.
You need also to create time to study the word of God. Reading the Holy Bible is one sure area of helping our unbelief.
Belief in testimonies is another way of helping our unbelief. If you are a person that doubts testimonies, then you may be farther from your miracle with unbelief.
Listen to testimonies and key into it. Use another person’s testimony as a prayer point.
Put simply, say to yourself, “ If God did it for Mrs. X, then he can do it for me too”.
When you do this, beloved, you have called God to remember you.
Testifiers are those that God remembers and visits. When God remembers, he must do something. The Lord does not remember a person and walk away.
I refer to a pre- sermon message of Pastor Benjamin Ajayeoba of RCCG , region 59 tilted, “God of all Possibilities”.
He said: “The difference between the one that receives miracles and the ones that do not receive is Unbelief”.
Beloved the choice is yours, to believe or not to believe.
Even as this year draws close to an end, give yourself an assignment.
Search the Holy Bible for passages that address the challenge in your life, and begin to pray vigorously about it.
The more you pray, the greater the chances of the Hosts of Heaven responding to your request.
As the LORD lives, because of his mercy, as you cry to him, he would put an end to your tears.
My prayer for you is that this year would not roll away with your expected miracle in the name of Jesus.
God reigns over all challenges.
Shalom!
