Nigerian singer and songwriter, David Bright Manancy, popularly known as T-Donny, has revealed that financial setbacks, low streaming revenue and managerial exploitation nearly stalled his rise in the country’s music scene.
Speaking on his journey, the Rivers-born artiste told pressmen in Lagos that his career has been shaped by resilience, consistency and a desire to develop a unique sound that reflects his influences and personal experiences.
T-Donny, born on February 14, 1992, said his interest in music dates back to childhood when he frequently accompanied his elder sister to choir rehearsals. The early exposure, he noted, ignited a passion that later matured into a professional pursuit.
The artiste listed Psquare, 2Baba, Duncan Mighty and Mr Raw, alongside newer-generation stars such as Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido, as key inspirations that influenced his style and ambition.
Despite his early drive, he said the road to visibility was not smooth. He cited challenges including poor financial returns from digital streaming platforms and the experience of being taken advantage of by a former manager. According to him, time management, personal discipline and perseverance helped him navigate the setbacks.
On collaboration, T-Donny said working with fellow artistes Bovikizz and Chapta recently broadened his creative range and boosted his confidence in exploring diverse genres. He described the experience as “awesome,” noting that teamwork has become an important part of his evolving sound.
Looking ahead, the singer disclosed that he is currently working on a 10-track album scheduled for release in February 2026. Although he declined to reveal the project’s title, he assured fans that the body of work would reflect significant artistic growth.
T-Donny expressed gratitude to his supporters, pledging to remain consistent while urging fans to continue streaming and promoting his music as he prepares for the next phase of his career.
