As Africa’s travel and tourism sector gains global momentum, Radisson Hotel Group is expanding its footprint across the continent with a clear, purpose-driven strategy. At the centre of this growth is Erwan Garnier, the Group’s Senior Director of Development for Africa, whose vision and dealmaking have reshaped Radisson’s presence in multiple African markets.

Based in Lisbon, Garnier oversees the Group’s development strategy, driving expansion through new hotel, resort, and serviced apartment projects. To date, he has sourced and signed more than 30 transactions across 12 countries — helping to position Radisson among Africa’s fastest-growing hotel brands.

“I started in operations because I loved the buzz of hotels and the craft of service,” Garnier recalled. “Development came later — it combines strategy, numbers, design, and cultural exchange. Africa made that mix even more meaningful.”

Purpose Meets Partnership

For Garnier, what sets Radisson Hotel Group apart is its entrepreneurial culture and commitment to local partnership. “Radisson moves with purpose,” he said. “We adapt to local realities, back our partners, and keep our promises. Seeing that approach turn into openings that transform a community or inspire a new generation is what keeps me motivated.”

Nigeria: A Key Market

Garnier describes Nigeria as one of Radisson’s most dynamic markets. “The people come first — warm, direct, and full of momentum,” he said. “Lagos and Abuja move fast and inspire creativity in every form — tech, music, and cuisine. Every trip leaves you with new ideas and stronger connections.”

He emphasised that trust and transparency are essential for success in Nigeria’s investment landscape. “You listen before you propose. Understand the owner’s vision and be clear about what works. Consistency builds credibility, and delivery cements it.”

Sustainable Growth, Human Impact

While hotel openings mark key milestones, Garnier said the true reward comes later. “The best moments happen months after opening — when you see a full lobby, a confident team, and an owner planning the next deal. That’s when a project stops being a file and becomes a platform for people and place.”

He sees huge potential in Nigeria’s evolving hospitality sector, particularly in mixed-use projects, serviced apartments, and lifestyle hotels that cater to both business and leisure guests. “The ingredients for a standout destination story are already there,” he said.

A Global Vision with Local Roots

A French national fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, Garnier brings a global perspective honed through leadership roles with Hilton Worldwide, Accor, and his own consulting firm in Brazil. He holds degrees from the Hotel Management School of Paris and an MBA from Cornell University and ESSEC.

When not traveling for work, Garnier stays grounded through fitness, exploring local cuisines, and keeping close ties with family. “Fitness keeps me centred, and staying connected with loved ones is worth every call,” he shared.

Describing his vision for Nigeria’s hospitality industry, Garnier was succinct:
“Inclusive, transformative, resilient, world-class, and rooted in local culture.”
