As global activities for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence continue, a non-governmental organisation, Hercode Initiative, has empowered young women with digital skills through a Cloud Practitioner Essentials Masterclass aimed at strengthening their capacity to resist and prevent gender-based violence.

Speaking at the training in Abuja, the Founder of Hercode Initiative, Dr. Ada Uformadu, said the programme is part of a strategic plan to curb gender-based violence by equipping young women with technological knowledge that enhances confidence, broadens opportunities and reduces vulnerability.

“We are gathered here today to uplift awareness and promote activism for women and girls, ensuring they are confident, empowered and fortified,” Uformadu said.

She encouraged the participants to extend the knowledge gained to their communities, schools and workplaces, adding that the organisation is committed to providing continued support for their growth.

Uformadu also urged federal, state and local governments to invest in closing the digital gap for women and girls by improving access to technology and infrastructure.

“We are advocating for women and girls. We are building solar laboratories to ensure they have the proper infrastructure to utilize the tools needed to thrive in the digital space,” she noted.

The founder revealed that participants would receive scholarships, computers and mentorship to support their entry into the technology ecosystem.

“Cloud computing is the foundation. That is why we are offering this free course—to help them obtain professional certification, improve their lives, enhance their economic status and ultimately contribute to national development,” she added.

The Technical Partner of the Hercode Initiative, Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS), emphasized the role of educating the girl child in unlocking limitless opportunities.

ECEWS Education Advisor, Mrs. Catherine Osho, highlighted that cloud technology is already shaping the future of work in Nigeria, and young women must be equipped to take advantage of it.

Participants described the training as an eye-opener, stating that it exposed them to new career pathways and boosted their aspirations. They expressed gratitude to Hercode Initiative for the life-changing opportunity.

The young women received training in solutions architecture, artificial intelligence, data analysis and other key digital competencies—placing them on a promising path toward inclusion, innovation and empowerment.
