Francis, son of Governor Bassey Edet Otu, of Cross River State, tied the knot with his heartthrob, Sylvia Oku-Ita, in a traditional and white wedding.
The occasion coincided with the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum (NGSF) quarterly meeting. It was indeed a celebration of love, unity, and culture; a true reflection of Cross River’s rich heritage. Truly, the state remains the people’s paradise as the governor and his wife, Eyoanwan, played host to their guests and made their stay in Cross River memorable.
The elated groom’s dad described the event as one of life’s most joyful milestones for his son who has begun his journey into manhood. The ceremony, held at the Hope Waddell Training Institution, was a master class in Efik heritage, elegance, and joyous family pride. The bride showcased sophistication in a richly embroidered velvet wrapper, adorned with layered coral beads and a beautifully styled hairpiece. The groom, who also serves as Special Adviser in the Governor’s Office, looked regal in a white Usiere shirt, wrapper, and coral accessories, escorted by his Efik brothers proudly showcasing Calabar’s royal customs. Earlier, the groom and his groomsmen had made a grand entrance in coordinated red agbadas. Among them, Afrobeats’ superstar, Davido, charmed guests with his swag and humility, greeting elders with respect. As the couple exchanged vows, the atmosphere was electric with cheers and heartfelt blessings. Guests were treated to vibrant Efik dances, drumming, and the ceremonial presentation of the groom. One of the most emotional moments was the handing over of Sylvia to Francis. The event was graced by First Ladies from across Nigeria, including Fatima Bago of Niger, Mary-Maudline Nwifuru of Ebonyi, and Olufolake AbdulRazaq of Kwara State. Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State; former Senate President Bukola Saraki; and Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, were among the dignitaries present at the occasion. Otu expressed profound gratitude to dignitaries, friends, and well-wishers who joined his family to celebrate the marriage, describing the occasion as “a divine moment of love, joy, and fulfillment.”
