‘Behind the Scenes’: Working with Funke Akindele is always a learning experience – Wendy Imasuen

Wendy Uwadiae Imasuen, a renowned producer, is set to make waves in the movie industry once again with his latest project, “Behind the Scenes,” a heart-wrenching film he produced with Funke Akindele titled, “Behind The Scenes.”

The movie, which explores the struggles and heartbreak people face in their closest relationships, promises to be an emotional rollercoaster. Imasuen describes the movie as a relatable story with valuable lessons to be learned. Akindele also revealed that the film was inspired by a divine instruction to create a story relatable to real-life experiences. “This movie promises to explore the struggles and realities often hidden from the spotlight, offering a story that resonates beyond surface glamour,’ Imasuen added.

This is not the first time Imasuen and Akindele have worked together. Their previous collaboration, “Everybody Loves Jenifa,” grossed N1.8 billion in cinemas. Imasuen praises Akindele as an embodiment of creativity and a restless spirit, stating that working with her is always a learning experience .

“Each time I work with her, I try to match up with her energy. You cannot produce for Funke and be lazy. So, your toes must always be on the ground, your eyes must always be on the prize. I have worked with Funke closely since 2019 and I have no regrets doing so. She’s a wonderful human being, I am very grateful to her for the opportunity she has given me to showcase my craft,” said Imasuen.

The movie directed by Funke Akindele and Tunde Olaoye boasts of a talented cast, including Tobi Bakre, Vee, Uzor Arukwe, Iyabo Ojo, Mr Macaroni, Destiny Etiko, Uche Montana, Afeez Ayitoro, Ini Dima-Okojie, Ibrahim Chatta among others.

“Behind the Scenes” is set to premiere in cinemas worldwide on December 12, 2025, with the UK premiere coming up on December 4, while Nigeria’s premiere is slated for December 7. America, and Canada premieres will be announced later by the team. With Imasuen and Akindele’s track record, “Behind the Scenes” is poised to break box office records, following the success of previous hits like “The Tribe Called Judah” and “Everybody Loves Jenifa.”
