…as it condemns rumored death of Obiano

On the heels of the just concluded state’s gubernatorial election which saw its Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, in landslide victory, Anambra State Government has set plans in motion to give the indigenes and residents of the State a special December season codenamed “Onwa Dezemba.
This formed part of the resolutions at the 23rd session of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) Meeting, held at Light House, Awka, on November 17, 2025.
Meanwhile the Council approved several project contracts in continuation of the government’s massive infrastructure and other development projects it had been committed to since the onset of the regime nearly four years ago.
The Council also used the meeting to condemn the wild rumor alleging that the immediate past governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano, had passed on.
Giving a briefing on the outcome of the ANSEC session, the State’s Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, stated: ‘‘The Council received and refined a report on plans to give Ndi Anambra the most memorable December experience ever, branded ‘Onwa Dezemba’.
‘‘The magnificent festivities, to be held at the Solution Fun City, Awka, the reconstructed and remodeled Ekwueme Square, etc., are planned as a Christmas unlike any other. They will include masquerade festivals, Christmas Carols, masquerade festival, and musical fiestas with well-known Nigerian musicians, among others.
‘‘The Council urged university autonomy in choosing vice chancellors and welcomed Professor Ugochukwu Anyaehie, the recently appointed substantive Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, wishing him a very eventful term.
‘‘Chief Willie Obiano, the immediate past governor of Anambra State, was the subject of a death rumour that went viral on social media. The Council strongly denounced this report, calling it sad and reckless and thanked God for the excellent health enjoyed by the state’s past leader’’.
On the developmental projects approved at the Council session, Mefo listed them: ‘‘The sum N87.2 million as the annual premium for the provision of asset insurance policy/coverage for the Light House, Awka, through a long-term agreement of five (5) years in the first instance.
‘‘The sum of N171.5 million, for modification and completion of the abandoned court building and the renovation/upgrade of associated structures within the Court of Appeal Complex, Awka.
‘‘The sum of N330.5 million for the rehabilitation of failed portions of the Court Road and Obunagu Road, within the Awka Metropolis.
‘‘The sum of N443.4 million for the supply & installation of fire-fighting equipment at the College of Nursing Sciences, Umueze-Isuofia, Aguata LGA.
‘‘The sum of N297.9 million for the supply & installation of additional furniture at the Government House Theatre and the Multi-purpose Hall of Light House, Awka.
‘‘The sum of N346.9 million for the rehabilitation of failed portions of the St. Thomas Aquinas Road, GRA Awka-Min of Lands-Ekwulobia Street-Chief Abose Ejeagwu Lane.
‘‘The sum of N85.3 million for the supply & installation of 32kva solar power system at Country Club of Solution Fun City, Awka.
‘‘The sum N1.8 billion for the construction of Ikenga-Isuofia-Igboukwu Discharge Channel.
‘‘The sum of N90.5 million for the construction of the Solution Park & Pay Garage at Ekwulobia, comprising office building, gate house, toilet facility, concrete floor, park gazebo with solar panel stands & park benches and perimeter fence.
‘‘The sum of N476.3 million for the extension of electricity to Iyiora Anam Community and Zion Ministry Psychiatric and Elderly Hospital, Aguleri
‘‘The sum of N240.3 million for the installation of a 3-way traffic light system at Igwe Orizu Junction (Lot 1) and a 4-way traffic light system at the Nnewi Roundabout, along the Nnewi-Ozubulu Dual Carriageway, Nnewi (Lot 2), with pedestrian lights at both locations’’.
