Panic has gripped residents of Kubwa, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following the abduction of a popular contractor, Mr. Anthony Aruna, by armed men who stormed his residence on September 14, 2025.
Mr. Aruna, a well-known businessman engaged in the supply of diesel to schools, hotels, and churches within the Kubwa area, was attacked while returning home from church with his family.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants ambushed him at the entrance of his house, beat him, and threatened his wife and children before whisking him away at gunpoint. His wife immediately alerted the police after the incident.
Barely 48hours after the abduction, the kidnappers have yet to make contact with the family, leaving relatives and residents in distress over his safety.
A source close to the family disclosed that Mrs. Aruna and her children have since gone into hiding, fearing a possible renewed attack by the abductors.
Residents of the Kubwa community have described the incident as another disturbing sign of the growing insecurity across the FCT, lamenting that kidnapping and violent crimes have become a recurring nightmare in Abuja’s satellite towns.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command confirmed receiving a disturbing report on the abduction of Mr. Aruna, assuring that operatives have launched an investigation to track down the perpetrators and secure his release.
