In a bold step towards bridging Nigeria’s educational divide, tech firm Omobile has donated over 1,000 educational tablets to students in the Federal Capital Territory, unveiling its new learning platform, SABIHUB, alongside the specially designed Omobile Hybrid Tablets.
The donation and product launch took place on Saturday, drawing education stakeholders, government officials, and school proprietors who hailed the gesture as a game-changer for digital learning in underserved communities.
Omobile’s Chief Executive Officer, David Ogunbanjo, said the initiative was driven by the urgent need to close the digital gap between students in elite schools and those in less-privileged areas.
“Too many children are falling through the cracks of our educational system. With the SABIHUB app and our hybrid tablets, we are offering a real solution — one that makes learning inclusive, interactive, and accessible,” he said.
The Omobile Hybrid Tablets are equipped with restricted SIM cards to ensure a safe digital environment. Pre-installed with the SABIHUB app, the devices feature verified video lessons, past examination questions, virtual classrooms, gamified learning tools, and more.
Parents and teachers are not left out. The app allows parents to track their children’s academic progress and attendance, while teachers can upload content, assign homework, and even monetise their educational materials.
Olobashola Kolawole, Director of the FCT Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation, described the rollout as a “major breakthrough” in modernising Nigeria’s education system.
“This is more than just handing out tablets. It’s a strategic investment that positions our classrooms for the realities of the digital age,” Kolawole said.
Also speaking at the event, the President of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Chief Mrs Ruyakat Agboola, commended Omobile for driving innovation and creativity among young learners.
“Our children are more curious, more expressive, and more engaged because of this kind of exposure. This is what 21st-century education should look like,” she noted.
The tablet distribution and SABIHUB launch mark a significant milestone in Omobile’s broader mission to democratise quality education through technology, particularly for students in low-income and rural communities.
